Hoodia or P57AS3 (P57) as its more readily know in the scientific world is and extract from the cactus like plant (Hoodia gordonii). Hi guys and thanks for logging into my first post as part of the BrinkZone. It’s an honor to be involved in such an active and voraciously inquisitive online community dedicated to the real application of nutrition science.
As many of you know I have been deeply involved in research of carnosine and its functions in skeletal muscle. However, recently I was contacted by a write from the Times newspaper (UK) who were conducting research into the medical nutrition, or Mediceuticals as some are defining it. My current work involves patients with genetic conditions leading them to develop extremely high lactate levels inside muscle tissue and associated acidosis (low pH) (Muscle myopathies and cytopathies). Acidosis is related to the fatigue you feel at the end of very high intensity exercise, or at the end of high rep calf rises. However, in the patients I look at the level of acidosis is at levels found during high intensity exercise when they at rest. In real terms this can mean just lifting a tin of beans up can be a real effort.

What Will Brink Uses For Supplements
I’m often asked what I use personally for supplements, or what brands I personally use, and other questions regarding supplements I prefer. So, instead of writing out a long list of supplements and other info, I thought I would take people for a video tour of my personal supplement stash which will (hopefully!) answer most questions I get about which supplements I personally use. Now, what I use may or may not be what YOU should use, so this is not a video endorsing or recommending anything beyond what I have in my personal supplement intake. Enjoy!

Fish oil Helps with…..Everything!
It seems every week I start a thread, an article, an email, or blog entry with “fish oil helps with…” Let me sum this up for you all: fish oil helps with just about everything! Cardio vascular health, brain function and health, bodyfat, hair, skin, joint pain, and many other benefits. I simply can’t fathom at this point that there is anyone not including a few grams of fish oil to their diets.

Strength and muscle mass are two of the most important components of healthy living in older men and women. If you don’t have strength, every activity is going to be harder than it should be. Fortunately, you can prepare for your later years by building strength and muscle with the help of two nutritional supplements.

In a previous post, I discussed the use of chemical nomenclature on supplement labels vs. common names. For whatever reason, some people are more impressed by stuff they don’t understand, so - from a supplement marketing perspective - the more complex you can make it, the more “high tech” and “cutting edge” it will look. 3′,5,7-Trihydroxy-4′-Methoxyflavanone looks waaaay kewler than “hesperitin,” though they’re the exact, same thing.
