Is body building healthy? It’s a question that’s been asked over the years, and I decided to answer the question (hopefully!) once and for all. The answer it, it depends….
As many of you know, I’m not a fan of Planet Fitness’s general policies, their insulting commercials, etc. If not familiar with all that, my prior blog, with a few of their commercials and such can be found here: Will comments on Planet Fitness and A Visit To Planet Fitness. People accused me of exaggerating the issue and such, but I knew differently. I thought maybe my cartoon vid on Planet Fitness (see linked blogs) might be a tad exaggerated, and it’s clear it was not!
The Daily Show with John Stewart did a segment on Planet Fitness which shows them for the company they are. Had I written the script myself for the person they sent to represent the company, I could not have done a better job making them look so ridiculous as Jason Jones does in this (must see!!!) segment of the Daily Show called:
I rest my case!!!!
12/18/2011 update: T-Shirts and other apparel now available! Go to: BrinkZone Apparel Page
People have asked me about BrinkZone T shirts for years, and I’ve finally gotten off my butt to make it happen. Below are the designs/colors I’m considering. However, what I need to really make them a “must have” T shirts is a great motto- and or artwork – for the back of the T Shirt.
So, I’m going to have a contest! Submit the motto and or artwork you think best represents what the BrinkZone is about, and you will win a free T shirt and free access to either my Body Building Revealed or Fat Loss Revealed Programs!
My article specific to caffeine ( coffee and caffeine do not have the same effects BTW…) actually generated a number of comments and questions on coffee, so I did this vid.
For you coffee lovers, this vid is for you!

Researcher Satoshi Kanazawa Says Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women in recent Psychology Today article. I know what you are thinking folks “WTF?!”
Enough people complained that the article was removed, but it can be found other places if one looks. Is that true? Is he correct? I explore the topic in this vid and explain where research like this goes bad…
Yes, I like to make some silly vids once in a while in addition to my more serious vids/topics. Life is too short to be serious all the time in my view…however, the topic of the vid is important. Relaxation, stress reduction is an essential component to our health and well being, and our over all success.
So people don’t think all I do 24/7 is read studies, here’s what I did this weekend, something I have been putting off for a long time, replanting my HUGE aloe plant. This is the smaller of the two I have, which I call Hans and Franz. They started as one small aloe plant many years ago. Transplanting at this point is no small task. Takes two people to move them. They have to be cut out of their pot using a grinder tool and blade!
It was so big, I had to split it into two plants, and still had a bunch left over! Went from this:
The power of our mind to directly impact our physiology has long been debated. It’s (obviously) a tough area to do real objective research on vs the cosmic crap that gets passed around. The study of the brains ability to directly impact our physiology is growing by leaps as both technology and techniques have improved greatly.
I think one of the most obvious places to look in terms of showing just how powerful the mind is, is when looking at the placebo effect.
Most non scientists* think of the placebo effect as generally meaning a non effect. That is, nothing happened.
That’s not true at all. The placebo effect is a real effect, and measurable. It’s only recently getting the attention is deserves as a legit effect showing just how powerful the mind is and it’s direct impact on us.
Researchers involved in clinical studies have known about it forever, and it’s taught in every classroom as science 101, yet, only recently getting some real focus.
Here’s a vid that does an excellent, and entertaining, job of summarizing just how amazing and powerful the placebo effect is, which is a direct measurement of the brains ability to alter all manner of our physiology.
I think the mental disconnect for most people is realizing it’s generated by the mind, but don’t realize it’s a real effect, that is, has direct and “real” physiological changes take place.
Some times, at just as high a % as the active compound it’s being compared to, or to a lesser degree (which may or may not statistical significance but I’ll leave it there as to not make eyes gloss over…) then the compound being tested.
Not a dry boring vid, but really interesting and entertaining:
* = and some scientists/medical types who should know better….
As some of you may recall, I did a vid not long ago regarding the demeaning low-brow advertising campaign that the club chain Planet Fitness is using to sell memberships. You can check out my prior comments and a few of their commercials HERE.
Below one persons visit to the “judgment free zone”
