    Will,
For some reason your video ‘topics’ have become very sluggish of late (maybe its the high humidity in Mass). If I could, I would inspire you to go back to your roots where you dug in deep to find great information for all of us. Do you now derive topics based on Google search popularity (black girls, caffeine, endless chatter on Creatine, etc…) ? Most of your videos this year, unhappily I report, have been very sleepy.
I encourage you to take some risks on real topics….like you used to do.
Here are some ideas for you to consider.
#1 Organic foods. What we need to know and why.
#2 Cheat days. Carb cycling works, but is it the healthiest alternative ?
#3 Weight lifting after age 45-50. Why goals ,workouts and nutrition should change.
    Take care

      First things first Bennie.
“For some reason your video ‘topics’ have become very sluggish of late (maybe its the high humidity in Mass). If I could, I would inspire you to go back to your roots where you dug in deep to find great information for all of us.”
I now have well over 100 vids, so some are hits, some are not, but I cover what interests me at that time and or what I think may be of interest/value to others.
“(black girls, caffeine, endless chatter on Creatine, etc…)”
My vid on the “research” on black women got more traffic and comments then most, so it was a topic of interest to many clearly. I read his POS article, and decided (due to my love for women of ALL colors) I would do a response. Chatter on creatine? I get asked those questions constantly, so I will do a vid I can direct people to, vs. answering that Q for the 3,987,7182,816 time. The caffeine and create Q for example, I get all the time….caffeine, I liked the topic and it seemed few knew coffee and caffeine are not equal.

#1 does not interest me, but I’ll try. #2, I think my between my articles here, other vids, and products (BBR and FLR) and free reports, not needed, but I’ll keep them in mind. #3, I have a number of article and vids on age specific topics. I’m not sure such a vid fills a specific topic need, but something to consider.

Hey Will and Bennie, As far as #2 I recently shot this video that might be of interest/help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUEGKpCYoxI
Thanks again Will for all the continual, down-to-earth information!

    Hello Will
    Thanks for this interesting topic.
I would like to hear your opinion on HMB? Is it another scam?
    Thanks

    • Author
      Will Brink 13 years ago

Short answer is, it may have some medical applications and such, but for healthy athlete types, there’s $$$ better spent elsewhere
Long answer: I cover in depth HMB and just about every supplement on the market, as well as training and nutrition, in Body Building Revealed. So, if you want to know what works and what’s a waste of money, you might consider my BBR program.

I’ve had this question on my mind for a while now. thanks for putting it to rest!

  6. Keith 13 years ago

I liked that and can use that information since I did use protein shakes with coffee

  7. Joe 13 years ago

Because I use both caffeine and Creatine I know that there isn;t an effect. Actually the caffeine just helps me with the intensity of my work out….

Will, I have been working out for 30 years….still really enjoy it, but have been more a recreational workout guy than a serious bodybuilder. I just want to counter any criticism you get about your vids with a note of appreciation. I’ve read almost all the mags and made most every mistake relating to training and supplements, and even after 30 years, I’m still learning. I want to thank you for your straight forward, very clear and concise vids which really address a lot of issues that pertain to all levels of training. You have become a trusted source for everything regarding training and supplement use. Thanks for your efforts.

My main concern with this topic is this:
SINCE CAFFEINE IS A DIURETIC, DOES IT WASH OUT SOME OF THE SUPPLEMENTS(VITAMINS/MINERALS/BCAAS/CREATINE) THAT WE TAKE??
So by saying that “caffeine does not affect the absorbtion of creatine”, does that mean that you if you take 5g of creatine with caffeine, that the caffeine, as a diuretic, will not wash out any more of the 5g as opposed to taking it with no caffeine??
I always wondered if the caffeine I was taking was, to some extent, counterproductive to the supplements I was taking at the same time. Was I wasting supplements by taking them with caffeine because the diuretic nature of it would possibly wash some of them out of my system before I could absorb them into my muscles?

Where in the vid did I say “caffeine does not affect the absorbtion of creatine”? You put it in quotes, but I never said such a thing. I said it appears that caffeine does not negatively impact creatine metabolically speaking. Two, writing in all caps = yelling at people on the ‘net, and no yelling is required. The actual diuretic effect of caffeine is fairly minimal, but the dose make the poison. It’s not an issue I would be concerned over within any reasonable doses of caffeine.

Wow, didn’t mean to offend on so many levels… thanks for the response.

Offend? Not at all Jay. Believe me, you’ll know when I’m offended 🙂

Will, you seem like a real angry, lonely man who frankly has lost his touch. You have turned into a
man who makes strange videos and is afraid to make a mistake.I originally became your fan in 2006 when you took chances (regardless of failure or success) and stood your ground. Today, you have become so afraid to make a mistake. You are quickly becoming a disgrace.
If you really want to increase brinkzone site hits and page views why not just run some porn ? leave black girls and another creatine video to somebody else.

Bennie, you now strike me as a jerk and someone I would prefer not post to my web page. Your ISP will be blocked on future posts here, so do me and yourself the favor of keeping your opinions to yourself. Have a nice life.

My understanding is that caffeine can interfere with insulin sensitivity and, thus, (with insulin as a transporter) the muscles may receive less of the creatine one is taking. Your thoughts?

    • Jay 13 years ago

I think they said that taking antioxidants(rutin, vitamin E, vitamin A, zinc, and selenium) has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity, perhaps that may be a way to counter the possible interference of caffeine…

  11. Alex 13 years ago

I take mine with my morning shake that includes coffee and it works wonders, the effects are the expected so it cant influence them..
But caffeine is a diuretic, what do you think about that issue in terms of water intake ?

    • Alex 13 years ago

im sorry i didnt read the other comments before mine and you had allready answered this, since i dont think i have too much coffee i dont think i will bother too much..

  12. Julio 13 years ago

Creapure’s website and ergolog blog (the researchs showed actually) claim that such negative effect may occur on high-continuous doses of caffeine, thoughts?

  13. Matt 13 years ago

    Hey Will,
Sorry in advance if you’ve answered this question before, but I’ve heard people suggest you should take simple carbs like fruit juice with creatine to help move it into the muscles. I have dextrose in the form of corn sugar that I use in my post workout shake. Would this be a better option than fruit juice with creatine, or is there even any need to add anything but water to creatine monohydrate?
I dont want to complicate things too much (like you say, keep it simple stupid) but I just want to make sure i’m getting the most out of my creatine and post workout shakes so that I’m not spinning my wheels
    Thanks

    • Matt 13 years ago

Just to clear things up, I am taking my creatine + dextrose separately from any protein or protein+dextrose shakes. I eat a really clean diet and am just wondering if the 20ish grams of dextrose that i put with creatine is even worth it.
      Thanks again

Lower amount of high GI carbs is still most likely worth it, but not essential per se.

I literally just dissolved some creatine in my hot coffee :-). As I learned from Will’s other vids, creatine dissolves better in warmer liquid. Didn’t effect the taste of the coffee at all!

Will, what are your thoughts on creatine monohydrate causing an increase of dihydrotestosterone, otherwise known as the baldness hormone?

    • Author
      Will Brink 12 years ago

There was a single study in soccer players I recall that found the effect, and it was not a very well done study that that. No study before or after has ever found the effect on DHT, nor would I expect them to. It’s a non issues people really need to let go of and move on… 🙂

        Cool, thanks Will!

  19. Clammy 11 years ago

    Hi Will,
Just found this video (I may have watched it int he past as well, heheh…) because I’m planning on starting creatine dosing again (after many years off it), and the other day, you recommended dissolving it in hot tea. Since I am a big time coffee drinker, I was researching whether or not coffee + creatine is a good combo. I found lots of conflicting info. Creapure’s website states:
    “Creatine and Caffeine
Taking large doses of caffeine (5 mg per kg body weight per day) cancels the ergogenic (performance enhancing) effect of creatine. Smaller amounts of caffeine (for example, 1–2 cups of coffee), on the other hand, do not seem to have an adverse impact on the effects of creatine.”
Along with coffee, I regularly take EC (without the “A), so I’m pretty far above the 5mg/kg per day level. Will that really cancel the effects of the creatine?
    Thanks.
    Cheers!
    Clammy

Some studies suggest creatine can help with Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. I’m aware of no studies that suggest it would be a negative, but you should get clearance from your doctors before proceeding.
